Healthy Diet

  1. Eat plenty (≥ cups) of fruits and vegetables. Try to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables each day. (Not canned, not frozen fruits with added sugars, not fruit drinks)
  2. Choose whole-grain foods (like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice). These foods can be a good source of dietary fiber (≥ 3.5 ounces).
  3. Eat fish, especially oily fish (like salmon, trout, herring), at least twice a week.
  4. Limit your intake of saturated and trans fats.
  5. Limit the amount of red meat you eat and choose lean meats and skinless poultry.
  6. Under 450 calories added sugar/week (Avoid processed sugars and syrups, soft drinks, sugar sweetened beverages).
  7. Less than 1500 mg sodium/day.
